Tree Planting Map
Funded by the Welsh Government’s Wales and Africa Programme, Welsh charity Size of Wales works closely with in-country Non-Governmental Organisation, Mount Elgon Tree Growing Enterprise to achieve the ambitions of this programme.
Our core aim is to distribute and plant 50 million trees for free, to farmers and landowners by 2030, across a heavily deforested area of Eastern Uganda. This map browser shows the more than 20 million trees distributed throughout the programme between 2010 to present, and is updated live as distributions are logged into our database. Each green point represents a group of trees distributed from a nursery, which may include several hundred trees. Click on any green point to see how many, and which species were planted in each location.
The trees are all distributed through our network of community run nurseries, shown in orange on the map. The map is interactive, click any of the tree planting locations or nurseries to find out more, or filter the trees in the bottom left corner to show your favourite tree, or tree type!
